A slightly blurred collage of community photos. A march with yellow signs, two people hugging, a meeting, and a person talking on a megaphone are visible. There is a transparent blue overlay and a semi-transparent lighter blue box with the words "Headwaters Foundation for Justice e-newsletter" in black.<[link removed]>

Celebrating our very first Co-Executive Director
After a year of deep reflection, strategizing, and re-imagining, Headwaters Foundation for Justice is taking a historic step toward a co-leadership model. This decision joins the many ways Headwaters practices collective decision-making in our fight for collective liberation. With this change, we are thrilled to announce Bilal Alkatout as our very first Co-Executive Director! As we celebrate Bilal, we also begin our search for a partner Co-Executive Director to join Bilal and help lead Headaters into its next chapter. Help us spread the word!

We got to hang out with 100 of our closest friends
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came to our recent celebration event, "40 Years of Resourcing Change." We were thrilled to celebrate with so many of you, old friends and new! From the stellar panelists to our artist friends from Studio Thalo to the kiddos who kept the party going into the night - we are so grateful to each and every one of you. We will be sharing photos from the evening soon and hope to see all of you back at our celebration social hour on December 5th! More information to come.

Introducing... Giving Project Cohort 9!
You heard a lot from us during the recruitment phase. Now we get to introduce the powerhouse that is Headwaters' 9th cohort of the Giving Project! Over the course of six months, this group will develop a shared understanding of race, class, gender, and power, make a personally meaningful monetary gift, fundraise their network through donor organizing, and practice collective grantmaking to meet this goal. Our new webpage is the landing page to support the cohort in their fundraising efforts. Scroll through to meet the members of the cohort! See a familiar face? Ask them about this year's Giving Project!

Donor Advised Funds Explained, Critiqued, and Reimagined
Monday, October 28, from 12 to 1 p.m. CT
Get all your questions answered about donor advised funds (DAF). Learn why they’re popular, the tax benefits, and the dark side of DAFs. Headwaters holds DAF for individuals and families. Our radical approach to donor organizing and our philosophies around philanthropy as an institution founded on our nation’s racial wealth divide have us DAF’ing differently.
We prioritize moving resources to movements with urgency and our DAF holders subscribe to these sentiments as well. Join us for a lively conversation between Leah Olm, tax law enthusiast and student at Mitchell Hamline and our very own Director of Individual and Donor Advised Fund Giving, Mary Delorié.

ICYMI: Our Second Installment of 40th Reflections
As we celebrate 40 years of Headwaters, we have been offering reflections on the ways we and others can challenge the movement of money. Check out Bilal Alkatout's blog, "Flipping the Script of Philanthropy: Putting Power AND Money into Community Hands," a thoughtful companion to our
first installment on the act of giving. <[link removed]>We're excited to offer two more installments in this series - keep an eye out this month to hear from community-grantmaker, Alfred Walking Bull!
