Celebrate Texas Archeology Month at the Archeology Fair

October is Texas Archeology Month [ [link removed] ] (TAM)! The Texas Historical Commission, in collaboration with partners across the state, hosts various in-person and virtual events, including fairs, lectures, and tours, to celebrate Texas' rich heritage. 

A highlight is the Texas Archeology Fair [ [link removed] ] at the French Legation State Historic Site [ [link removed] ] in Austin on *Saturday, October 12*, from *11 a.m. to 3 p.m.* This free, family-friendly event will feature hands-on activities and demonstrations, such as atlatl throwing and pinch-pot making kits.

Undertold Marker Applications Now Open!

For over a decade, the Texas Historical Commission has selected up to 15 special topics yearly to receive a free historical marker through the Undertold Marker program [ [link removed] ]. Undertold markers address historical gaps, promote diversity of topics, and proactively document significant underrepresented subjects or untold stories. 

The submission period is *now open until November 15*! View the application here [ [link removed] ]. Applications can be submitted through the new official Marker Portal. Sponsors of selected topics will be contacted following the THC’s quarterly meeting in January.

Mark Your Calendars for the Fall Fandango

Fall back in time to the frontier! Join San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site [ [link removed] ] on *October 19 *from* 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.* for the Fall Fandango [ [link removed] ], a free event celebrating the vibrant spirit of the 1830s. This family-friendly festival is held outside the San Jacinto Monument in La Porte and will feature living history activities, authentic saloon games, delicious historical recipes, and much more! 

Don’t miss out on special experiences like the Chili Queens’ Culinary Journey and the exciting Will Howard Gaming Hall. Bring your family and friends for a day of fun, food, and fascinating history!

Smithsonian 'Crossroads' Exhibit Comes to Clifton

Clifton, a charming small town in Bosque County, is set to host the Smithsonian's traveling exhibit "Crossroads: Change in Rural America" [ [link removed] ] from *October 12 to November 24* at the Bosque Museum.  

This exhibit will explore the evolution of rural life over the past century, highlighting rural America's unique history while addressing opportunities for economic revitalization.
