When: Sunday, October 13, 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Where: Belle Haven Marine North Parking Area - Please use this exact meetup location on Google Maps ([link removed]) . Once you reach the parking lot, we will have signs pointing you in the right direction, so make sure to keep an eye out for that! Come join the fun!
How many birds can you identify in one day while staying within a 17-foot / 5.2-meter diameter circle? Our Nextgen Birders for Conservation ([link removed]) group has joined the Big Sit ([link removed]) challenge—a nationwide event where birds are observed from a 17-foot diameter circle from dawn to dusk. All are welcome to come participate.
Representatives from different conservation-related organizations will come throughout the day to tell you how you can get involved with helping birds and take climate action! Here's the schedule:
* 8 AM - The Big Sit Starts!
* 9 AM - Northern Virginia Bird Alliance ([link removed])
* 10 AM - Fairfax County's Invasive Management Area Program ([link removed])
* 11 AM - Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions ([link removed])
* 12 PM - Chesapeake Climate Action Network ([link removed])
* 1 PM - End of Big Sit & Getting Lunch! Come join us for lunch after to debrief the day.
Things to Note:
* There are public bathrooms on-site.
* Bring your own chair, snacks, and water.
* We will provide loaner binoculars on a first-come, first-served basis.
* This is a different style of birding than many people are used to, and is friendlier to mobility-limited participants.
* The mix of habitats at Dyke Marsh is excellent (trees, open areas, water, mud flats), and we're expecting to record over 50 species throughout the day.
* Please dress appropriately for the weather.
* You can check out [link removed] for more information on this event.
See you out there!
