How many birds can you identify in one day while staying within a 17-foot / 5.2-meter diameter circle? Our Nextgen Birders for Conservation group has joined the Big Sit challenge—a nationwide event where birds are observed from a 17-foot diameter circle from dawn to dusk. All are welcome to come participate.
Representatives from different conservation-related organizations will come throughout the day to tell you how you can get involved with helping birds and take climate action! Here's the schedule:
1 PM - End of Big Sit & Getting Lunch! Come join us for lunch after to debrief the day.
Things to Note:
There are public bathrooms on-site.
Bring your own chair, snacks, and water.
We will provide loaner binoculars on a first-come, first-served basis.
This is a different style of birding than many people are used to, and is friendlier to mobility-limited participants.
The mix of habitats at Dyke Marsh is excellent (trees, open areas, water, mud flats), and we're expecting to record over 50 species throughout the day.
