Following the catastrophic and widespread destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Helene in the Southeast, our teams have been on the ground in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina assisting round-the-clock with critical disaster relief efforts.
Yesterday, we conducted an emergency evacuation of over 30 dogs at the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center in Asheville, North Carolina.

This area has been devastated by the Category 4 storm, and we will remain on the ground there, working at the Emergency Operations Center to coordinate with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture to establish a statewide pet supply distribution plan to support communities impacted by the disaster. Our teams are also supporting the North Carolina Department of Agriculture with help coordinating with partners in Western North Carolina to determine how we can best support additional needs, including evacuating displaced homeless animals out of the disaster zone.

In addition to these response efforts, at the request of the Georgia Department of Agriculture and as a member of the National Animal Rescue & Sheltering Coalition, our disaster responders are on the ground in Georgia assisting with impact and needs assessments in the aftermath of the storm. We also conducted water and land search-and-rescue assessments and have been supporting impacted communities with pet food and other critical supplies for animals and pet owners affected by the storm in Florida, and over the weekend, we assisted with the emergency transport of 37 shelter cats, all unowned, after Franklin County Humane Society experienced flooding.
During emergency situations like this, it’s critical that we have support from compassionate people like you. While our response to this disaster continues to evolve, we hope we can count on you.
