Dear John
Our mission at WLT is to help people worldwide protect and restore their land to safeguard biodiversity and the climate. Your support has provided a lifeline to our work with local communities and threatened habitats.
This year we are partnering with Nature and Culture in Ecuador (NCE) on
a vital project in the Ecuadorian Amazon ([link removed]) , and we need your help to raise £1,362,042. Together we can help communities within the Orellana Province to protect their land for generations to come. Your pledge will aid the creation of a Provincial Protected Area measuring an estimated 747,000 hectares (1.85 million acres) — that is significantly larger than the county of Devon — providing a haven to a wealth of flora and fauna, including threatened species such as the Amazonian Manatee, Amazon River Dolphin, and Giant Otter. Equally important, is the support your action will provide to the Indigenous communities, as funds will enable them to forge a sustainable future in the Amazon, protecting their homes, livelihoods, and wellbeing.
Jaime Toro from our partner describes why this project is so important to the local communities below, and I hope that you will join us to help these communities have a voice and be able to protect their home.

“My work, particularly with Indigenous communities, has taught me so much, especially in learning from their ancestral cultures, while gaining insight into how they connect with nature, relying on the rivers and the forests for their work, homes and wellbeing. The is why Indigenous people play such an integral role, working with the national government to protect forests and have a say in managing them.
The Amazon is changing in several ways from the clearing of trees with the growth of farming and cultivation, to degradation from unplanned roads. One of the biggest concerns I sense through my work with communities is the threat from oil and mining, and the concerns of the social and environmental impacts arising from associated activities.
This project addresses these threats by supporting initiatives to protect the water, the forest, the species as well as improve the lives of the communities. So, please support us in Protecting the Ecuadorian Amazon, and help communities to safeguard their land in Northeast Ecuador.
