The deaths of those officers, compounded by the recent deaths of two Black men at the hands of police, left me deeply troubled. The aftermath forced me to confront questions that had been lurking beneath the surface for years about race, violence, and medicine. Suddenly thrust into the national spotlight, I found myself speaking publicly for the first time about the harsh realities I witnessed daily in the trauma bay –– while questioning my purpose as a doctor. <[link removed]> The Bodies Keep Coming This book began as a few hundred stream-of-consciousness words I thumb-typed on my phone after a session with my therapist.
