# Nearly 60% of nonbinary employees in the US have experienced discrimination or harassment at work

The majority of nonbinary adults in the workforce are under 35 and make less than $50,000 per year, and about half of them are people of color. Our
new report ([link removed])
reveals that employment discrimination against nonbinary employees is widespread and persistent.

Approximately 59% of nonbinary employees have experienced discrimination or harassment at work due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. In the past year, 16% of nonbinary employees reported being fired, not hired, or not promoted due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. One in five (20%) reported experiencing harassment in the workplace.

# LGBT adults in California face increased risks of firearm violence

California is home to 2.9 million LGBT adults. A
new study ([link removed])
by the
UCLA Center for Health Policy Research ([link removed])
in collaboration with the Williams Institute finds one in seven LGBT adults in California have a gun in their home. Nearly 10% of them say that it's kept loaded and unlocked.

The study also found that more LGBT adults in California (55%) worry about being a victim of gun violence than non-LGBT adults (45%). Additionally, an estimated 416,000 LGBT adults in the state said they had thought seriously about suicide in the past year, including an estimated 31,600 who live in households with firearms.

The Williams Institute is looking for a Project Policy Analyst to assist scholars in conducting public policy, social science, and public health research related to the mission of the Institute. Primary responsibilities include research and analysis of regulations and legislation, preparing written products (e.g., literature reviews, reports, manuscripts, grant proposals, fact sheets, graphics, and presentations), and coordinating project timelines, research materials, and data collection.

Judicial and Legal Education Director & Scholar

The Williams Institute is seeking an experienced director to lead the Institute's educational programming for judges, lawyers, law students, and the public. The Director will also be responsible for running three of the Institute's premier annual programs: the Williams Institute Moot Court Competition, the Dukeminier Awards Journal, and the Institute's Annual Update Conference. After the second year in the position, the Director will teach a course at UCLA Law focused on sexual orientation, gender identity, and the law.
