5. FIGHT THE STIGMA

[link removed]

Dear Friend,

World Alzheimer's Day is a few days
away. That means you still have time to mark this special day with a
gift that can go twice as far to deliver life-changing care and
support and advance crucial research in the fight against Alzheimer's
disease. Can I count on you to make the most of our World Alzheimer's
Day 2X Match Challenge before time runs out?

There are many reasons we need you to support our fight. Right
now, I want to focus on the reason World Alzheimer's Day exists: to
raise awareness and confront the stigma surrounding this disease and
all forms of dementia. This stigma deeply impacts the lives of
millions of people living with Alzheimer's disease. People like Phil
G., who said:

"After my diagnosis, I was
overwhelmed by fear that made me want to hide."

For people like Phil, the stigma of this disease only feeds
its relentlessness. Fear, shame and lack of education prevent many
people from:

* Seeking medical treatment when symptoms are present.
* Receiving an early diagnosis or any diagnosis at all.
* Living the best quality of life possible while they are able to
do so.
* Making plans for their future.
* Benefitting from available treatments.
* Seeking medical treatment when symptoms are present.
* Developing a support system.
* Participating in clinical trials.

We need to end this stigma and encourage open communication.
We need to let everyone impacted by this disease know they are not
alone - that there are resources and groups here to guide,
support and comfort them on this most difficult journey. We need to
raise our voices to make our fight a priority for our policymakers at
all levels.

Five tips to overcome
Alzheimer's stigma

World Alzheimer's Day was established to confront this stigma.
So I'm urging you - in the true spirit of this day - to
make a gift today, while it can still go twice as far to help overcome
the misconceptions that feed this stigma while we continue to deliver
crucial care and support and push vital research forward toward a
cure.

A generous donor who wishes to remain anonymous has pledged to
match all gifts - up to $175,000 - until midnight on
September 21, but only if we can raise the same amount. While their
gift will support Alzheimer's research and local chapter events, your
gift can go 2X as far to advance vital research and help provide
much-needed care and support.

This tremendous opportunity won't last long. Please make a
gift today while it can still have twice the impact on our fight to
end the stigma surrounding this disease and to fuel our mission to
lead the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia - by
accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early
detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

Before I sign off, I need to share the end of Phil's quote:

"Out of that fear grew
determination. I wanted to learn everything I could about the disease
and make awareness my cause."

This is the power your gift can have.
It can turn fear into resilience, awareness and hope. Millions like
Phil count on us every day to help overcome this stigma, provide care
and support and push vital research forward. Today, I'm counting on
you to join the fight with a gift before time runs out on our World
Alzheimer's Day 2X Match Challenge.
