World Jewish Congress President Ronald S. Lauder sends well wishes to President
Rivlin on Israeli Independence Day

“Never before has the challenge of Jewish solidarity been greater. More than
ever, it is clear just how dependent we are on one another. It is doubly clear
that we must overcome that which divides us, rediscover what unites us, and
above all, support one another," WJC President Lauder wrote in his letter to
Israeli President Rivlin.

Welcoming Trump's statement at the start of Jewish American Heritage Month,
Lauder emphasized the US president's words, 'Hatred is intolerable and has no

over again, by each and every person in a position of influence, until it is
made absolutely clear that incitement, bigotry, hatred, and xenophobia will not
be tolerated," Lauder said.

New York City Mayor de Blasio blasted after criticizing Jewish community for
funeral

WJC President Ronald S. Lauder calls New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to task
for having “painted the Jewish community as lawbreakers and unconcerned about
the city’s public health.” Lauder added: “To blame the entire Jewish community
is the type of stereotyping that is dangerous and unacceptable at any time, and
particularly pernicious while the world is gripped in fear and the worst among
us are looking for scapegoats.”

“We believe it is important for us to have a strong relationship with the
Government. This is a relationship we are proud to have. This means praise where

[[link removed]]Josef Schuster, President of Germany’s Jewish community, named to German Ethics
Council

Following the appointments on 30 April, the German Ethics Council will thus be
newly formed after numerous Council members, including the previous chairman,
Peter Dabrock, left the committee 20 days prior. The German Ethics Council now
has 24 members, including three members who were appointed outside the regular
cycle between 2016 and 2018. The Council is expected to meet for its first
plenary session in Berlin on 28 May.

The WJC-affiliated Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) condemned the
incident and affirmed that it was in contact with other minority groups to

The program featured remarks from WJC Executive Vice President Maram Stern, WJC
Vice President Yohan Benizri, and Ambassador of Israel to the European Union and
NATO Aharon Leshno-Yaar, as well as a “make your own cocktail at home" event led
by Israeli Chef Joseph Hadad, and a virtual concert led by Yaniv Hoffman

At 8 PM, Israelis observed a one-minute moment of silence, as a siren rang out
across the country in honor of Israel's fallen. The siren was followed by a
small ceremony at the Western Wall, attended by President Reuven Rivlin and
Chief of General Staff Aviv Kochavi. At 9 PM, following the completion of the
ceremony, the names of the fallen were screened on the wall of the Knesset.
