WHO Office Despite President’s Order
Dear Colleague,
Some staff at the State Department have found a way to keep funding WHO’s regional office in Washington despite the President’s order to halt WHO funding. Last year the State Department defunded the Organization of American States (OAS) for promoting abortion in violation of the Siljander Amendment to U.S. foreign aid law. As I report [[link removed]] this week, PAHO, too, is in violation of the Siljander Amendment, whether it is viewed as part of the WHO, the Inter-American system, or an independent organization.

WASHINGTON, May 1 (C-Fam) Last week, the U.S. State Department decided to continue funding the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), while defunding its parent organization, the World Health Organization (WHO). PAHO’s promotion of abortion is at odds with Trump administration foreign policy, and it also violates the Siljander Amendment to U.S. foreign aid law which forbids U.S. funding being used to lobby for or against abortion.
