Dear Colleague,
Some staff at the State Department have found a way to keep funding WHO’s regional office in Washington despite the President’s order to halt WHO funding. Last year the State Department defunded the Organization of American States (OAS) for promoting abortion in violation of the Siljander Amendment to U.S. foreign aid law. As I report this week, PAHO, too, is in violation of the Siljander Amendment, whether it is viewed as part of the WHO, the Inter-American system, or an independent organization.
Stefano Gennarini, J.D., looks at how some feminists are using the new processes during the UN’s shutdown to make sure abortion stays on the agenda.
Stay well. Spread the word.
