** May (International Worker's) Day in Santa Barbara this Friday
------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 1 (see times below)
Facebook Event: [link removed]
SBDSA chapter members are among many who've planned a pandemic-friendly event for Friday, which is May Day, or International Worker's Day. From the event organizers: "When we say Bail Out the Working Class, we are acknowledging the financial disaster knocking at the door of many renters, homeowners & small businesses, and are calling for a systemic response. That is why we say we want a #DebtFreeFuture in #CancelRents & #CancelMortgages to support workers and small businesses. We've Bailed Out Wall Street Corporations before, its time to Bail Out the People."
* COVID-Safe Care Rally - Care about workers that care about you. Car rally will meet at 5:30 pm and start at 6:00 pm. If you want to participate, contact [email protected]

* To top it off, join us at the First Friday El Centro SB Open Mic at 7:30 pm to celebrate workers and uplift the art of our "Earth Day to May Day" social media campaign

Upcoming chapter meetings are on the third Thursday of the month. NEXT month's meeting will therefore by May 21, 2020.

** Get Involved / Take Action:
------------------------------------------------------------
* Pledge to #ShareTheRelief ([link removed]) - for those who can, donate your stimulus checks to local, undocumented workers and their families: thousands are waiting for assistance.

+ Link to take the pledge! ([link removed])
+ Link to donate directly NOW ([link removed])

* Join our working group for organizing labor in Santa Barbara. Union and other forms of labor organizing are transformative reforms that not only help workers' lives directly, but help us get to the world we want to build. Join the new LABOR ORGANIZING channel on WhatsApp to connect, and look for the next meeting sometime next week:

* Help us phonebank Bernie supporters to join DSA SB! Bernie Sanders has endorsed DSA as an organization to get involved in to continue the political revolution! Send us an email ([email protected]) if you're interested in helping us:
+ Phonebank local Bernie supporters
+ Plan new "Intro to DSA" events

* Interested in taking on more leadership in the chapter? We need you! Join our next open steering meeting - 5/4 @ 6pm. Reach out to us for call info.

* DSA National is launching Organizing School, an ongoing series of organizing training opportunities for anyone in DSA. The first one is TONIGHT (Thursday), click here to register: [link removed]

* Volunteer to help set up and manage new technologies that will improve member engagement, communication, and day to day organizing.

* Push for Healthcare for All, as part of our "Earth Day to May Day coalition with CAUSE" - Please call Salud Carbajal’s office at (805) 730-1710 and urge him to cosponsor H.R. 5010, Rep. Khanna and Ocasio-Cortez’s bill to provide a pathway for states to enact universal healthcare with Federal support.
California Governor Newsom has appointed a commission to study universal healthcare and the Federal bill would go a long way in making state-based universal healthcare possible. Beyond that, the California legislature also needs to step up and put forward solutions of their own. Please contact Monique Limon at (805) 564-1649 and Steve Bennett at (805) 620-7118 to ask them to re-introduce a single payer bill in the State legislature."

** Join our Communications Channels via WhatsApp - Reminder: our community agreements apply in virtual space.
