Youth in Care Interview Recruitment

The Collaborative for Youth in Care (CLYC) is looking for young adults
currently in extended care or formerly in out-of-home care, as well as
adults who have worked with youth in care for interviews about their
experiences learning about healthy relationships and sexual health. There
will be one interview opportunity per person with a one-hour time
commitment. Eligible participants must currently live in Harris County or
surrounding areas, and will receive a gift card for participating. TO LEARN

Interview Spotlight

Each month, the Texas Campaign interviews young adults with lived
experience with regards to teen pregnancy or sex education in Texas to
learn about their experience and to help us incorporate youth voice into
everything we do. The impact of their first-hand experience helps inform
our future work across the state.

This month, we interviewed Gayatri Rajamony, who shared her experience with
sex education in Central Texas and what she wishes they had told her about
sexuality and consent.

Welcome Mitch Rosen!

We are delighted to welcome Mitch Rosen back to the Texas Campaign Board of
Directors! Mitch is a Regional Business Manager for Evofem Biosciences, a
company with a mission of empowering women. The majority of Mitch’s
20-year career has been spent in women’s health, with a specific focus on
contraception. He is passionate about the power that comes from education,
access, and choice and has worked to break down many common barriers that
exist for women throughout the state of Texas.

Sex Ed For All Month

Join us for the second annual Sex Ed For All Month! Last May, a group of
national sexual and reproductive health organizations launched the
first-ever Sex Ed For All Month. We celebrate #SexEdForAll because we
envision a world where all young people—no matter where they live, or how
they identify—receive the high-quality, evidence-based sex education they
deserve! Join us by using the hashtag #SexEdForAll on social media
throughout the month of May.

This May, the Texas Campaign will be focusing our efforts on the State
Board of Education (SBOE), and their rewrite of the health Teks for Texas
public education students. We are collaborating with Healthy Futures of
Texas and the North Texas Alliance to Reduce Unintended Pregnancy in Teens
(Ntarupt) and need your help to make sure students in Texas get access to
the information they need! To learn how you can get involved, visit
texasisready.org [7].

Parents and Healthcare Providers can help reduce sexual risk behavior

A randomized clinical trial carried out under a grant by the National
Institutes of Health shows the efficacy of a triadic intervention to
postpone adolescent sexual debut and to promote condom use among
adolescents aged 11 to 14 years. The researchers in this study evaluated
Families Talking Together (FTT), a triadic intervention designed to reduce
adolescent sexual risk behavior and address persistent disparities in
unplanned teen pregnancies as well as sexually transmitted infections such
as HIV/AIDS. Click here to read the full article. [13]
