Antisemitic Tropes and Media Figure Candace Owens

Candace Owens is a right-wing public figure who has come to espouse explicitly antisemitic, anti-Zionist and anti-Israel views, notably following the Hamas-led October 7 attack on Israel. She has millions of followers on various social media outlets, including YouTube, X and Instagram, as well as her own podcast.

Owens rose to prominence as a Black conservative commentator, a MAGA supporter and a fierce critic of the Black Lives Matter movement. She has a history of making troubling remarks about Jewish influence in world affairs, the Holocaust and Hitler’s plans during the rise of the Nazi party in Germany, as well as pushing conspiracy theories about the power of Jewish philanthropist George Soros. She also famously defended Kanye West (also known as Ye) following antisemitic outbursts from him in recent years — all of this shared with her extensive online audience.

More Funding for Safer Synagogues: We have good news to report! Thanks in part to the advocacy of ADL volunteers across the US who held over 300 meetings with Members of Congress and sent many, many emails, the Department of Homeland Security has allocated a historic $454.5M to the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (

see DHS funding list ). These grants fund security enhancements to synagogues and other houses of worship, along with other at-risk nonprofits. This much-needed increase comes at a time of record levels of antisemitism and hate. ADL will continue working with Congress to ensure there is sufficient funding for this lifesaving program. (See below for how you can take action to encourage future funding of this priority.)

More Evidence of Antisemitism in CA School District: In a lawsuit filed to stop the teaching of antisemitic content in Santa Ana, CA public schools, ADL and our partners have uncovered more evidence. ADL’s James Pasch notes,

“As the evidence shows, the district intentionally hid information from the public, to try to get away with teaching antisemitic lies to the next generation in Santa Ana. The antisemitism that infected this process sent a clear message to Jewish students and families that their voices are not welcomed, and that they were intentionally excluded.”

Terrorism Targets Latin America’s Jews: ADL’s Marina Rosenberg, a former Israeli Ambassador in Latin America, writes in an op-ed about chilling Islamist terror plots that have been disrupted in both Argentina and Brazil in the last 12 months, and that “While these plots were exposed in time to prevent mass murder, they sadly demonstrate that the Jewish communities in Latin America remain the target of both Sunni and Shiite Islamist terrorist networks that, until recently, appear to have operated with impunity.”

Fighting BDS at Minnesota: ADL thanks our many volunteers who emailed the Board of Regents at the University of Minnesota last semester, calling on the Board to reject a BDS proposal by anti-Israel students. You made a difference.

The Regents have rejected this call to divest from or boycott Israel. You can take one more step in this win by

With antisemitism and hate rampant online, major social media platforms must do more to fully comply with California’s 2022 bill requiring social media platforms to be transparent about how they are fighting hate & harassment. As this new ADL research shows, platform compliance is key.

We share @RepRitchie’s sentiments. Applying “no Zionist” litmus tests, and invoking tropes and conspiracies about Zionists is simply unacceptable. We urge all universities to follow suit by implementing and always enforcing policies to safeguard the rights of Jewish students.

Welcome home, Qaid Farhan al-Qadi! Qaid was rescued by Israel’s Special Forces after 326 days in Hamas captivity. We celebrate with his family and the entire Rahat community in this moment of joy. But time is running out. We must #BringThemAllHomeNow.

Another potentially deadly antisemitic incident in France: A man brandishing a knife accosted a woman near Paris, asked her religion and said he was out to “kill Jews.” Police arrested him, but these threats are intolerable in their frequency and danger.

We are aware of the defacement of the New England Holocaust Memorial, an act that desecrates a symbol of remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust. Vandalism of a sacred space is a particularly devastating form of hate with deep impact on our community. We are grateful to join our community partners as this investigation continues. We urge anyone with information to contact @BostonPolice at 617-343-4527.

We’re appalled that @POWERHOUSEArena canceled @joshualeifer’s book launch because they would not allow a “Zionist” to participate in the conversation. Preventing Jews from entering a public space because of their belief in a right to self-determination is antisemitic & wrong. We appreciate @POWERHOUSEArena’s statement which acknowledged this unacceptable cancellation.
