** Support Susana Almanza of PODER
------------------------------------------------------------
Our good friend and colleague Susana Almanza was in a serious automobile accident. She is out of the hospital but is expected to be wheelchair-bound for a significant amount of time as she makes her recovery. There is a GoFundMe page ([link removed]) for Susana to help offset medical expenses and make her home wheelchair accessible. And we encourage you to provide support for her recovery, if you can.
For those of you who don’t know Susana, she is a founding member and Director of PODER ([link removed]) (People Organized in Defense of Earth and Her Resources), a women-led, people of color grassroots social justice organization formed in 1991 to increase the participation of residents of East Austin in decisions related to the economic development and environmental protection of their communities. She is also a member of the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council. And she is one of the co-authors of the Principles of Environmental Justice ([link removed]) , which was drafted and adopted at the First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit held in October 1991 in Washington, DC.
