Dr. Micaela Martinez was interviewed by Between the Lines, a radio news program, about how personal care products marketed to people of color can cause cancer and other serious health conditions. She was also quoted in a Science article on why COVID-19 has been making a comeback.
Peggy Shepard’s Harlem Week speech was uplifted by Harlem World Magazine. Highlight’s also appeared in Columbia Climate School’s State of the Planet.
The results of our Out of Gas, In with Justice study continue to make headlines. Two Italian online news outlets, GreenMe and Il Fatto Alimentare, recently published stories.
A Next City article on the work being done by the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization has been doing to address vehicle emissions in Chicago included mention of the effort to reduce heavy-duty truck emissions being done by Clean Air for the Long Haul, a national coalition of environmental justice groups that we are a part of.

Support Susana Almanza of PODER
Our good friend and colleague Susana Almanza was in a serious automobile accident. She is out of the hospital but is expected to be wheelchair-bound for a significant amount of time as she makes her recovery. There is a GoFundMe page for Susana to help offset medical expenses and make her home wheelchair accessible. And we encourage you to provide support for her recovery, if you can.
For those of you who don’t know Susana, she is a founding member and Director of PODER (People Organized in Defense of Earth and Her Resources), a women-led, people of color grassroots social justice organization formed in 1991 to increase the participation of residents of East Austin in decisions related to the economic development and environmental protection of their communities. She is also a member of the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council. And she is one of the co-authors of the Principles of Environmental Justice, which was drafted and adopted at the First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit held in October 1991 in Washington, DC.
