Our Neighbors Deserve To Be Heard

** A Building Burned. And Dean Preston Failed Us. ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Neighbor,
I'm Jen Laska, a resident here in Hayes Valley. One year ago, a building on 300 Octavia Street in Hayes Valley burned down.
It took over 140 firefighters to put out. Two adjacent buildings were damaged. Our neighbors were displaced.
Our community jumped into action to raise a GoFundMe to support those affected.
But where was Dean Preston, the Supervisor of Hayes Valley?
For over a year, our community reached out for help but Dean Preston ignored our calls. ([link removed])

This week, I caught up with one of the victims of the fire, a disabled senior citizen who hasn’t been able to return home for over a year.
I asked if the Supervisor had helped her at all through her ordeal. She told me she called his office a couple of times for help after the fire, but no one ever returned her calls.
When our community tried to raise funds to support those displaced by the fire, Dean couldn't be bothered to return our phone calls.
When our community tried to raise awareness for the encampments growing in the abandoned building, Dean never responded to our concerns.
Yesterday, the SF Chronicle reported on our
frustration in trying to get the attention of Supervisor Dean Preston ([link removed]) .
Our neighborhood deserves better.
We deserve a Supervisor who will act when the community is in crisis.
We deserve a representative who will work across City Hall, with the Mayor's office, building consensus across departments to get results for us — not make excuses for their inability to act when our neighbors are suffering.
"We tried so much to work with our Supervisor's office, to raise funds for victims. We just simply got no response from them. Dean Preston doesn't return my phone calls." ([link removed])
- Jen Laska, Hayes Valley Community Leader
We need someone who will pick up the phone when we need it most.
That's why I'm supporting Bilal to be our next District 5 Supervisor.
For the future of our neighborhoods, I hope you'll join me.
Sincerely,
Jen Laska
Hayes Valley Resident
