*Where to Hike, Bike & Relax in Fall Color*
McKinney Falls in autumn, video link [ [link removed] ]

Are you looking forward to being outdoors in a cool breeze? Aren't we all! Fall is a popular time for visiting parks not only for the weather, but to see the beautiful foliage and the many birds migrating south. So plan your camping and day trips early.

Mother Nature isn't always predictable, but fall typically colors the trees around mid-October, and it's the perfect time to go hiking at your parks [ [link removed] ]. Try a hike at one of these parks that typically get flashy in fall:

Lake Bob Sandlin [ [link removed] ] – E of DFW

Huntsville [ [link removed] ] – W of Houston

Guadalupe River [ [link removed] ] – Hill Country

Cleburne [ [link removed] ] – SW of DFW

Find a list of Texas trees with fall foliage, and the parks where you can find them, in the "Texas Parks & Wildlife" magazine story It's Fall, Y'all [ [link removed] ]. Plan your biking, hiking or walk with downloadable and interactive park trail maps [ [link removed] ]. Some of your parks also have accessible trails [ [link removed] ].

Most overnight camping or lodging can be reserved [ [link removed] ] up to 5 months in advance, or reserve your day passes up to 30 days in advance. We'll see you out there!

*Campfire Tips and Tricks*

Campfire weather is coming up, and we've got insider tips to help you have a fun campfire experience and stay safe.

* Check if the park you're planning to visit allows ground fires, and confirm your site has a fire ring.
* Fallen wood is important to wildlife, so most parks don't allow firewood gathering. But firewood may be for sale in the park or nearby.
* Drown your fire completely before leaving your site. If you use charcoal, don't dump hot coals on the ground without extinguishing them completely.
* If you'd like to do some grilling over your fire, try this recipe for Alambres [ [link removed] ] – Mexican-style skewers. Pro Tip: save time by chopping your ingredients at home.

Check out our additional tips [ [link removed] ], and don't miss the short video Campfire Tips [ [link removed] ].
