I’m emailing about two things: To follow up on Maura’s note about the budget last night and to let you know that tonight at midnight is our July fundraising reporting deadline.

Secondly, last night Maura sent out a note about her new budget that she signed yesterday. I wanted to send out some highlights in case you missed it.

Her new budget makes history.

-She’s building on the success of MassReconnect by establishing MassEducate, creating the most comprehensive free Community College program in the United States.

-She’s fully funding the Student Opportunity Act and is continuing to provide free breakfast and lunch for every public school student in the state. Her budget also funds Literacy Launch, new plan to provide high-quality reading instruction to every student from age 3 to grade 3.

-Fully phasing in the Healey Tax Cuts means that families will receive the most generous universal child and dependent tax credit in the nation, at $440 per child.

-She matched her last budget’s record investment in Energy and Environment, and is establishing a permanent Disaster Relief Fund to help communities dealing with flooding and other consequences of climate change.

-The budget uses $250 million of Fair Share funding to leverage $1 billion of investment capacity for transportation infrastructure – including roads, bridges, and rails.

-Maura is doubling operating support for the MBTA and securing as much as $300 million right away for the MBTA Rail Enhancement Program, accelerating her progress eliminating slow zones.

In a country that is so divided, it’s powerful to see a Governor bring people together and deliver.
