For the NASN Scholarship Awards, Endowment Education Scholarships have gone to Nancy Jenks, Mary Elaine Knight, and Lisa Peterson. For the RN to BSN Educational Advancement Scholarships, congratulations to Erica Ward. The following have won NASN Research Grants: Mayumi Willgerodt - Determinants of School Nurse Sensitive Outcomes Indicators Ellen McCabe -District Level School Nurse Staff Characteristics and School Districts Provision of Health Services And, we would like to recognize the National Academy of School Nursing Fellows Nina Fekaris, Donna Mazyck, Robin Adair Shannon, and Mayumi Willgerodt. BETTER LEARNING. ™ NASN News and Highlights COVID-19 Survey for School Nurses NASN invites you to participate in a survey to better understand how COVID-19 has impacted health in schools, and the role school nurses are playing during this time. NASN hopes to use the information to better inform future policy as to the needs of schools related to infection control measures and health crises, as well as highlight the activities of school nurses. Please complete the survey by May 1, 2020. COVID-19 SURVEY Ready to Share Your School’s Every Student Counts! Data? Once you have collected your annual data, it is important to share your findings with your stakeholders (administrators, parents, staff, legislators, etc,). A variety of tools are available in the NASN library or you can develop your own report, one-pager, infographic, or presentation, etc. Also, last week, there was a mistake in the Weekly Digest regarding NASN’s new platform for data collection. It will NOT be ready this year-but will be for next year. RESOURCES Guidance for Childcare Programs that Remain Open For childcare centers that are open and operating in schools, the CDC has updated its guidance, effective April 16, 2020. CDC GUIDANCE School Nurse Day Theme: Supporting Students in Times of Crisis This year's theme – School Nurses: Supporting Students in Times of Crisis – reinforces the changing times of 2020. This year, more than ever, all members of our school communities, school nurses included, have been required to take on unprecedented roles and adapt quickly to changes in their jobs. We celebrate and honor the significant role school nurses play in the health and safety of their schools and communities during this crisis. COVID-19 Podcast with NASN Executive Director and NSBA NASN Executive Director Donna Mazyck had a conversation with the National School Boards Association about COVID-19. They discuss the coronavirus, preventive measures, and resources to help keep you informed and to plan for an outbreak in your community. Managing Chronic Health Conditions Resource for Mental Health in Schools When schools reopen, the transition back will be challenging for everyone.
