Your Latest Briefing from the Liberal Democrats.

What a result!

In the three weeks since their incredible election, our 72 MPs have hit the
ground running. They’re working hard to deliver on campaign promises, being
strong local champions and tackling the health and social care, sewage and
economic crises.

Thank you again to everybody who supported our campaign in any way. Thousands
of you knocked on doors, delivered leaflets, joined our maraphones, donated to
our campaign funds, and helped in many other different ways. This was your
victory.

You helped deliver real change across the country, giving communities the
representation they deserve and putting more strong liberal voices in
Parliament.Thank you.

As the third party in Parliament, we will hold the new Government to account,
pushing them to deliver for our country, and continuing to fight for the Fair
Deal we campaigned on.

Do you want to be part of our winning team and help deliver real change in
this Parliament, John?

Whether you’ve been active in our campaigns or inspired by our policies,
now’s the time to take the next step by becoming a Member and helping us build
on our success.

You’ll get exclusive briefings, access to events, the chance to vote on our
policy, and so much more.

Pushing the government on social care

Following the King’s Speech last week, we were disappointed not to see a
debate specifically held to discuss the crises facing our NHS and social care
systems.

As we put these critical topics at the heart of our election campaign, we put
forward an amendment to the King’s Speech to rescue our social care system,
alongside other measures to address fixing the NHS, sewage scandal, the
economy, and reforming our political system.

Following research we commissioned revealing this week that the number of
care homes in England has fallen by close to 1,500 since 2018, our amendment
called for free personal care in England, better support for carers and a
cross-party commission on social care to provide the desperately needed
long-term reforms to the sector.

Although the government voted against our amendment, our return to third-party
status gives Ed Davey a guaranteed two questions at Prime Minister’s Questions,
and in Wednesday’s first session of this Parliament, Ed used his questions to
push them further on this matter.

Ed pressed the Prime Minister to commit to right the wrongs left by the
previous Conservative government which have caused the Carer’s Allowance
repayments scandal and the crisis in our social care system.

Caroline Pidgeon appointed to the House of Lords

In early July, we were delighted to announce that Caroline Pidgeon will enter
the House of Lords.

Caroline had served as Leader of the Liberal Democrats in the London Assembly
since 2010, and was a London-wide Member since 2008, before stepping down
earlier this year.

With her strong track record of fighting for better public services and her
long dedication as a public servant, Caroline will be a brilliant addition to
Parliament.
