| | | Pushing the government on social care | Following the King’s Speech last week, we were disappointed not to see a debate specifically held to discuss the crises facing our NHS and social care systems.
As we put these critical topics at the heart of our election campaign, we put forward an amendment to the King’s Speech to rescue our social care system, alongside other measures to address fixing the NHS, sewage scandal, the economy, and reforming our political system.
Following research we commissioned revealing this week that the number of care homes in England has fallen by close to 1,500 since 2018, our amendment called for free personal care in England, better support for carers and a cross-party commission on social care to provide the desperately needed long-term reforms to the sector. | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 3 mins | Although the government voted against our amendment, our return to third-party status gives Ed Davey a guaranteed two questions at Prime Minister’s Questions, and in Wednesday’s first session of this Parliament, Ed used his questions to push them further on this matter.
Ed pressed the Prime Minister to commit to right the wrongs left by the previous Conservative government which have caused the Carer’s Allowance repayments scandal and the crisis in our social care system. | | | ⏲️ Watch time: 1 min | | Will you back our STAND UP FOR CARERS campaign? | | | With so many new Lib Dem MPs, there are lots of new faces in Westminster.
