Legislative Update

Dear Neighbors,

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! It has been busy, to say the least. I have enjoyed being back at school serving in my principal role while meeting community members, small business owners, educators, seniors, townships, parents, and young people to discuss some of the most recent legislation and the priorities that they hold most dear to them.

From the first day I took office, my goal has been to bring people together to reduce the divide, find common ground, create reasonable solutions, and listen to the priorities of families.

With your feedback and support, these conversations led to the formation of the Suburban Solutions Caucus. This is a group of new pragmatic public servants creating solutions for the top priorities of suburban families. Some of these priorities led to the creation of key legislation, including:

* *Better Together Education Plan:* Legislation that would have provided our schools with direct flexible spending for the classroom and educators, not more mandates that eat up school funding.
* *365 Community Safety Initiative:* Legislation that supports and invests in law enforcement and community safety 365 days a year.
* *Building Blocks of Learning Initiative:* Legislation that would address the cost and access of childcare for suburban families.
* *Keep It Clean Bill:* Legislation that passed protecting and promoting clean water and our environment statewide.
* *Dollars & Sense Initiative:* Legislation that would have reduced the money you spend on monthly expenses including lower car tab fees, cheaper gas, lower property taxes, and housing costs.
* *Boots On the Ground Bill:* Legislation that would have required anyone on an Education Finance and Policy Committee to shadow an educator or administrator to better understand how policies affect our classrooms and educators.
* *Building Minnesota:* Legislation that supported investments in our local community’s infrastructure needs including roads, bridges, clean water, parks, and supporting our hard-working blue-collar men and women.
* *Support Your Neighbor:* Legislation that addressed food insecurity for suburban families.

I will continue to work to address and amplify the voice of suburban families at the legislature with reasonable and balanced solutions.

I would continue to ask that you hold me accountable, share your priorities, ask questions, and work together with me to help our community. Together we can do so much more.

A final note for you.* During an election year, by law, legislators cannot send correspondence out after July 19th, so this will be my last email of 2024.* But, you can continue to reach out by email or phone to share your ideas, priorities, and thoughts as we prepare for the 2025 legislative session. I am always up to have coffee if that works as well!

Election Information

It's important to remember that November 5th isn't the only election day for individuals living in my district! We are in Minnesota's Second Congressional District which means that there is a primary election for United States Senate and United States Representative in addition to the November General Election. Here [ [link removed] ]is a sample ballot for most addresses in Jordan.

To be absolutely sure of who will be on your ballot, I encourage you to enter your own address into the Secretary of State's website here [ [link removed] ] to generate your own sample ballot.

After the primary on August 13, you will be able to use the same website to generate a sample ballot for the general election. I encourage you to do so and become familiar with the candidates!
