For the smoothest claims process:


* Protect your property from more damage. Cover broken windows and holes.
* Write down the names of everyone you talk to.
* Be ready to answer questions about the damage.
* Make a list of damaged property. Take pictures and video. Don't throw anything away.
* Be present when the insurance company inspects your damaged property.
* Ask about additional living expenses. It covers certain costs if you can’t stay in your house during repairs.
