Folks — did you know that across the country, police can lie to
minors during interrogations?
These sneaky tricks lead to kids giving false confessions and getting
wrongfully convicted, completely messing up their lives. It's an
outrageous abuse of power that preys on the vulnerabilities of our youth,
and it's time for it to end.
Out of 268 minors who were wrongfully convicted, 34% were trapped into
confessing to things they didn't do — all because police tricked them with
lies about evidence or what they were up against. This is a huge problem
that needs fixing, like, yesterday.
California, Delaware, Illinois, Oregon, and Utah have already passed laws
banning these deceptive practices. Now, we need Congress to step up and
protect children nationwide.
Every day we delay, innocent young people suffer. Their lives are ruined
by unjust convictions, their families torn apart, and our faith in the
justice system erodes further. We can't stand by and let this continue.
