Hi John,

This Fourth of July, as I march in my first Bristol parade as an elected official, I’m reflecting on our nation’s founding ideals.

Our founders imagined a system of self-governance free from a tyrannical king. They believed in a government where all are created equal and entitled to life, liberty, and opportunity to realize their dream.

Farmers and merchants—average citizens—banded together to declare independence and spark a revolution for freedom. This same spirit has endured across tireless generations of Americans who made it their mission to ensure our founding principles are truly secured for all citizens.

Thanks to the brave service of heroes who put their lives at risk and have given the ultimate sacrifice, as well as a legacy of those pushing us to reach our highest ideals, our country continues to stand as a shining beacon of hope for those seeking strength. Our story is a testament to our founding beliefs and commitment to advancing that sacred cause.

As we celebrate our progress this Independence Day, let us remember the one idea that changed the world: freedom.

Please take a moment to remember the shared history that binds us together as we continue our work to ensure we can shine ever brighter tomorrow.
