JUNE 2024

Dear John,

This month, Population Matters released a new report looking at the environmental crises of drought and desertification. Dried Up Futures investigates the impact of population growth and what is required to make a change.

You may remember that we have recently asked that you get in contact with your political representative to ask that they commit to funding [Population Health Environment]([link removed]) projects. We received an [official response]([link removed]) from the UK government, which Campaigns and Media Officer Madeleine Hewitt has studied and scrutinised.

Next week, 11 July, is World Population Day, a day intended to raise awareness of population issues around the globe. We are hosting a webinar (invitation below) and will be reacting to the latest UN population projections, so keep your eyes peeled.

Thanks for your ongoing support!

- The PM team

Quote of the month

“If we are truly concerned about the ocean and the future, we have to take population growth into account. Our planet and all its ecosystems have a carrying capacity. Every individual, whether a small consumer or a large consumer, draws from nature. Our population growth matters."

- Daniel Cáceres Bartra, marine conservationist and environmental advocate
