[- Independent presidential candidate RFK Jr.]([link removed]), attempting to explain away a new pic of himself and a barbequed carcass.

Trump’s sentencing was postponed until at least September, in the latest fallout from the Supreme Court’s hair-raising immunity ruling.

- Disgraced former President Trump, a man who spent his [entire life failing upwards]([link removed]), caught yet another lucky break on Tuesday. Barely a week before he was due to be sentenced for 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in his New York hush-money case, he scored his latest last-minute reprieve. Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan agreed with Trump’s lawyers that he’ll need time to consider whether the Supreme Court’s decision to grant the president sweeping criminal immunity for official acts might impact this case. Merchan plans to answer that question on Sept. 6th, before potentially sentencing Trump on Sept. 18th.

- Trump’s crimes in New York involved paying off an adult film star, which is no one’s idea of an official presidential duty. Still, some of the relevant conduct occurred while Trump was in the White House, noted Kate Shaw, co-host of [Crooked’s]([link removed])[Strict Scrutiny]([link removed])[,]([link removed]) in an appearance on [this morning’s What A Day podcast]([link removed]). Trump’s lawyers will now try to argue, across all four of his criminal cases, that “this new ruling changes everything,” Shaw said. The legal system will need a moment to digest the Supreme Court’s expansive ruling and decide exactly what it means for Trump in each case. At the very least, Trump will win further courtroom delays in an election year — as he just did in New York.

- The Supreme Court’s decision sent shockwaves through both legal and political spheres, prompting Justice Sonia Sotomayor, one of the three dissenting liberal justices, to warn it makes the president “a king above the law.” MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow [dubbed the decision]([link removed]) a “death squad ruling,” for its potential to make a future president dangerously unaccountable. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) [vowed]([link removed]) to file articles of impeachment against the Supreme Court justices, saying the court is in the throes of a “corruption crisis beyond its control.”

If Trump wins this election, he may avoid criminal accountability forever.

Trump’s advisors are already plotting to take advantage of the court’s lenient stance on his lawlessness. [His advisors told Axios]([link removed]) that a second Trump presidency will bring mass deportations, the firings of thousands of nonpartisan government employees, and pardons for hundreds of pro-Trump rioters who laid siege to the Capitol on January 6. What an awesome time to be alive!

Trump’s worst instincts were mitigated, to an extent, during his first term by a select few aides like former White House counsel Don McGahn and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Those guardrails, however flimsy they were, will be gone if Trump wins this November. This time, Trump will take office “with a Cabinet and staff pre-vetted for loyalty, and a fully compliant Republican coalition in Congress — devoid of critics in positions of real power,” according to Axios.

And with a Supreme Court with a conservative supermajority, including three handpicked Trump appointees, [the limit does not exist]([link removed]).

[President Biden blamed his poor debate performance]([link removed]) partly on too much international travel, telling a fundraiser it “wasn’t very smart” to go “traveling around the world a couple of times” before the debate, and adding he “almost fell asleep on stage.”

Meanwhile, his campaign scrambled to limit fallout from the event. Biden’s campaign chair held what [the Washington Post characterized]([link removed]) as an “urgent call” on Monday with more than 500 donors amid “widespread anxiety” about Biden’s chances against Trump. [The waters rising all around us, slowly sinking under] Sounds good!!!

Some Democrats are going public with concerns. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) became the first sitting Democratic lawmaker to call for Biden to step aside and make way for “a new generation of leaders.” [Former Ohio congressman Tim Ryan]([link removed]) said “it’s time” for Vice President Kamala Harris to replace Biden as the Democratic nominee.

Even Democratic stalwarts [Reps. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Jim Clyburn (D-SC) said questions about Biden’s fitness for office]([link removed]) are not without merit.

Sen. Peter Welch (D-VT) [criticized the Biden campaign]([link removed]) for its “dismissive attitude towards people who are raising questions for discussion.” Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) said he [wants reassurances]([link removed]) that Biden’s team is “being candid with us about his condition — that this was a real anomaly and not just the way he is these days.”

Senior Democrats managed to stop Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) from breaking with Biden last weekend, [according to the Washington Post]([link removed]). Not even a Democrat anymore and still getting bullied by leadership!!!

Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani was [disbarred in New York]([link removed](2021-00506).pdf) for his efforts to subvert the 2020 election. A state appeals court panel said Giuliani “flagrantly misused his prominent position” as Trump’s personal attorney and “repeatedly and intentionally” lied to the courts and the public while undermining “the integrity of this country’s electoral process.”

Trump [amplified]([link removed]) a Truth Social post calling former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney a traitor who should face a televised military tribunal. Cheney fired back on Twitter/X, writing: “Donald — This is the type of thing that demonstrates yet again that you are not a stable adult — and are not fit for office.”

A top leader of the Republican National Committee’s platform committee once toyed with the idea of imprisoning women who get abortions just days after the Dobbs decision was leaked in 2022, [CNN’s KFILE]([link removed]) reported. As we’ve seen in the two years since then, that’s completely in line with how Republicans have approached the issue. Horrifying, but not entirely surprising!

[Trump said Biden]([link removed]) will pay a “big price” for the purported “weaponization” of justice after Steve Bannon went to prison this week. The statement is par for the course for Trump, who’s vowed to exercise all the levers of presidential power to exact revenge on his political foes if he’s reelected — while accusing them, without evidence, of doing the same thing to him.
