Dear John,
Imagine being fired by an automated message through an app. Uber calls this “deactivation,” but for drivers it means suddenly losing access to work and income. To make things worse, drivers rarely get information about why they’ve been deactivated, and aren’t provided with an accessible way to appeal or get reinstated.
The threat of getting deactivated hangs over drivers' heads—they know they can lose their jobs at any time with no explanation. For too long, Uber has used this unjust business practice to bully drivers and keep them working in fear.
Now, drivers from across the US are uniting to end unfair deactivations [[link removed]] and demand new rules: transparency , fairness , and an accessible appeals process .

From San Jose to Denver to Chicago, drivers are coming together to #ActivateRespect [[link removed]] . Today, drivers in each of these cities will be outside rallying, talking to other drivers and passengers, and spreading the word about their demands. Listen to what they have to say:

Let’s be real: you can’t trust Uber. We’ve exposed its shady practices over and over—from how it fails to keep drivers safe [[link removed]] , to how it raises prices on passengers and blames it on driver wages [[link removed]] , to how it meddles in policymaking and our very democracy [[link removed]] . Deactivation is just another way that Uber bullies and bamboozles to get what it wants, meanwhile treating drivers like they’re disposable.
The new rules that drivers are fighting for — transparency, fairness, and appeals — are critical to holding corporations like Uber accountable. Show your support for drivers by signing on to our petition below!
