Immigrants may be underrepresented [[link removed]] in office, but we're undeterred in our mission to build a democracy that works for all of us!
We’re thrilled to launch our 2024 Elected Advisory Council (EAC) [[link removed]] , a cohort of trailblazing New Americans who will advise and amplify the growth, programming, outreach, and development of the NAL network. Composed of a diverse group of state and local elected officials, the EAC will convene regularly and further our movement to create a more inclusive democracy!

“What’s more, the arrival of record numbers of immigrants at the United States-Mexico border over the past two years has not corresponded with an overall increase in crime.”
Despite the extreme rhetoric being shared, The Brennan Center [[link removed]] found that the data does not support claims that the United States is experiencing a surge in crime caused by immigrants. Policymakers need to refrain from spouting false and generalized claims as it not only furthers extreme, discriminatory agendas, but also hinders crime prevention policies that can actually help make communities safer for everyone.

Happy Pride Month! While 7.6% of adults identify as LGBTQ+, less than 1% of elected officials [[link removed]] in the U.S. identify the same, though there's no way to quantify those who hold office but haven't come out publicly.
Our friends at Run For Something and the LGBTQ+ Victory fund are committed to demystifying what it looks like to run for office as an out and proud LGBTQ+ leader. Register for their upcoming Ask Me Anything: Running for Office While LGBTQIA+ [[link removed]] — and get to meet one of our very own NALpistas, Arizona House Representative Lorena Austin!

In just 10 years, the Asian American population in North Carolina grew by 68%. But even then, Asians have the lowest rates of voter registration. We’re here to change that by working with North Carolina Asian Americans Together [[link removed]] as they engage Asian Americans to vote and get civically engaged.
Together, we'll host our Ready to Lead® AAPI [[link removed]] training for the very first time in North Carolina! If you’ve always wanted to run for office, but didn’t know where to start, consider applying to our program! Know someone who’d be a perfect fit? Let us know! [[link removed]]
