We passed my amendment to the NDAA...   Washington, D.C. - On Tuesday, I met with North Texans from the American Jewish Committee Dallas to discuss the alarming rise of antisemitism. I also reiterated my support for the State of Israel as it defends itself from Hamas terrorists and works to free the hostages held in Gaza. After, I met with North Texans from the Susan G. Komen Foundation to discuss the Access to Breast Cancer Diagnosis Act and Safe Step Act, both of which I’m cosponsoring. I was honored to receive the Hospice Action Network Angel award from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization for my bipartisan work in Congress to combat hospice fraud and abuse. Later, I voted for the Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal Act which posthumously recognizes 60 diplomats for their bravery in risking their safety to save hundreds of thousands of Jewish lives during World War II. Decades later, as the Jewish people face the greatest threat since the Holocaust, I co-sponsored this important legislation to honor these heroes who stood against a profound evil in their time. I was grateful for the chance to speak on the House Floor on Tuesday evening to honor the life and legacy of President H.W. Bush in recognition of what would have been his 100th birthday. You can click here or on the photo below to watch my remarks. I chatted with North Texans in town from the Dallas Builders Association on Wednesday. They were in DC to discuss workforce development, housing affordability, and the supply of electrical transformers. Later that day, it was great seeing North Texans from the American Subcontractors Association's North Texas Chapter. Construction subcontractors play a crucial role in #TX24’s fast-growing economy, working to provide safety, quality, and efficiency for families and commercial properties alike. Wednesday evening I voted to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress. He has refused to comply with our subpoena to issue the audio tapes from President Biden's classified documents interview which the American people have every right to hear as part of our commitment to transparency in government. Thursday began with our Ways and Means hearing over the rise of antisemitism on college campuses and the failures of university leadership to hold students and faculty accountable. One of our witnesses, a recent Cornell graduate, testified that the university leadership dismissed threats against Jewish students, violent sentiments from Hamas sympathizers, and the rabidly antisemitic environment on campus. After, I met with Children's Health System of Texas and heard from a North Texan who shared her story about the exemplary care she received at Texas Children’s Health. In the afternoon, I spoke on the House floor to urge my colleagues to support my NDAA amendment which will roll back Biden’s illegal Department of Defense abortion travel program. I’m pleased to share my amendment was adopted with bipartisan support. You can read more in the Work of the Week section below. This morning, I voted to pass H.R. 8070, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for FY25, which boosts pay for our troops by 19.5%, while providing resources to counter foreign threats. I introduced several amendments to improve the bill and am grateful that two of them were included in the final version passed by the House. Texas-24 Work of the Week This week, the House passed my amendment to the FY25 NDAA that will block the DoD’s unlawful policy of using taxpayer dollars to fund abortion expenses. I’m working to support women throughout their pregnancies and after instead of incentivizing abortion on demand. Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Heroes are Southlake SRO Officers Brett Roberson and Corey Rattan who received the distinguished Heart of Service Award from the Southlake Kiwanis for their commitment to protecting and serving the children of Southlake!
