you'd have seen a perfect slice of American small-town life. But
if you visited today, you'd see a heartbreaking example of our
nation's coronavirus tragedy.

With schools closed and families out of work, hunger is
knocking on a lot of doors in Hammond. And across the country.

traffic came to a halt.

is," she says. "It's been a lifeline for us."
