Our chapter has been involved in over a month of weekly organizing calls with activists and volunteers affected by this unprecedented pandemic. This month's chapter meeting focuses our attention on local and national efforts, and why DSA is the place to continue organizing after Bernie's campaign.
We'll hear from guest speakers (representing El Centro, CAUSE, the newly-forming Santa Barbara Tenant's Union, and others) sharing some stories about work and opportunities to get involved locally. We'll also hear about shifts in DSA work, and explore how we can focus our chapter's energy around strengthening our community and build strategic campaigns towards our goals.
Agenda is available for members here ([link removed]) . DSA SB is your member-run organization, thank you for following our community agreements ([link removed]) .

Upcoming chapter meetings are on the third Thursday of the month. NEXT month's meeting will therefore by May 21, 2020.
** Get More Involved:

"We will not go back to normal. Normal never was. Our pre-corona existence was not normal other than we normalized greed, inequity, exhaustion, depletion, extraction, disconnection, confusion, rage, hoarding, hate, and lack. We should not long to return, my friends. We are being given the opportunity to stitch a new garment. One that fits all of humanity and nature."
- Sonya Renee Taylor
* Join the weekly COVID-10 SB Response calls when you can:
After Bernie suspended his campaign and the pandemic virus lifted many veils on American inequity, many have been looking for a way to do something. Hear from coalition partner, and volunteer to lead a task, or volunteer some time to help make it happen.
* Join the growing Tenant Organizing movement in Santa Barbara:
Join this WhatsApp channel, ([link removed]) run by a coalition of local housing organizers, to get connected. If you know anyone affected by the pandemic or who is having trouble paying rent, and they want to do something about it, please join. Bilingual support coming soon.
* Join a monthly Open Steering Committee Meeting (NEW), where chapter members interested in taking on more stewardship of our chapter goals can join the steering committee to observe or represent the chapter. Great for anyone interested in 2020 elected office, or just getting more involved. First one is next week: Monday, 4/20/20 at 6:30pm. Interested? Fill out this quick form here to be invited.
* Learn more about planning strategic campaigns (new national guide adapted for organizing under COVID-19 ([link removed]) ) ([link removed])
* Volunteer to help set up and manage new technologies that will improve member engagement, communication, and day to day organizing.

** May Read: Bigger Than Bernie
------------------------------------------------------------
Discussion Group Event: TBD (confirming authors as guest speakers)
" In Bigger than Bernie, activist writers Meagan Day and Micah Uetricht give us an intimate map of this emerging movement to remake American politics top to bottom, profiling the grassroots organizers who are building something bigger, and more ambitious, than the career of any one candidate. As participants themselves, Day and Uetricht provide a serious analysis of the prospects for long-term change, offering a strategy for making “political revolution” more than just a campaign slogan. They provide a road map for how to entrench democratic socialism in the halls of power and in our own lives.
Bigger than Bernie offers unmatched insights into the people behind the most unique campaign in modern American history and a clear-eyed sense of how the movement can sustain itself for the long haul."
