Last month, we sent an appeal highlighting the devastation nickel mining would cause to the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa. We are so grateful to Survival supporters who rose to the challenge by raising vital funds and standing alongside them.

In recent footage, two uncontacted Hongana Manyawa men warned bulldozer operators to stay off their territory.

Dear Jack,

Last month we sent out an urgent appeal, highlighting the devastation nickel mining would cause to the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa – and Wow! did you rise to the challenge!

20,000 of you have now sent emails to mining companies and electric car manufacturers, urging them to take a stand against destroying the tribe's lands and future. You also raised an incredible £32,000/ $40,000 for our campaigns during the appeal.

Destruction from nickel mining in Akejira, Halmahera. The rainforest of the Hongana Manyawa is being rapidly destroyed by mining.

Now, we've learnt some really exciting news: Just over a week ago, Tesla announced they are exploring the need to establish a no-go zone for mining to protect the land of uncontacted Indigenous peoples. The company made it clear that it expects suppliers to get genuine agreement - that is “Free, Prior and Informed Consent” - from Indigenous communities before extracting any resources from the ground.

For the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa, saving their forests from the miners is the only option for their survival. They're continuing to resist, and we're standing with them.

Your unrelenting support for the Hongana Manyawa shows that our collective power can bring about real change. Together, we can pressure even the most powerful companies in the world.

It’s not too late to stand with the Earth’s Indigenous peoples by supporting Survival’s campaigns. Please, give a gift today.

There's still time to donate
