Dear John,

Thank you for your continued support and interest in our mission. As someone deeply concerned about refugees and displaced people, I want to share a pressing issue that is exacerbating their already challenging circumstances: the escalating climate crisis.

Imagine this:

🔥 Scorching heatwaves with no end in sight

💧 Prolonged droughts draining vital water sources

🌀 Violent storms tearing through makeshift shelters

🌊 Floods sweeping away livestock and livelihoods.

These climate-related disasters are pushing refugees into even more vulnerable situations, testing their resilience beyond measure. In the East and Horn of Africa, countries like Somalia, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Kenya are facing catastrophic drought, significant flooding, water scarcity, hunger, insecurity, and conflict.

For instance, over one million Somalis have been displaced since the drought began, devastating their livelihoods dependent on livestock and crops.

The urgency of this situation cannot be overstated. UNHCR is actively on the ground, providing vital aid and protection, and working on long-term solutions such as clean solar energy, planting seedlings, and implementing flood prevention measures.

As we approach World Environment Day, we want to highlight how interconnected our efforts are. The climate crisis affects all of us, but refugees are on the frontlines of this battle. Your continued support is crucial in helping these vulnerable communities build resilience to climate shocks.
