RGV TEENFEST: INSPIRING RIO GRANDE VALLEY YOUTH

We'd like to showcase the impactful work happening in the Rio Grande Valley
(RGV) through our recent event, RGV TEENFEST, a collaborative effort led by
Healthy Futures of Texas YOUTH ADVOCATES [4] alongside the Brownsville Pod.
Pods are part of the Texas Youth Action Network's initiative to foster
positive youth development programs.

This event, which saw the participation of 114 youth, was a testament to
our commitment to empowering young people in the RGV community. Our shared
objective was to equip youth in the Rio Grande Valley with the tools to
manage their health and access crucial community resources. The success of
RGV TeenFest reflects our dedication to positive youth development. We
extend our heartfelt thanks to all who supported us and look forward to
furthering this mission across Texas.

We are thrilled to announce the LAUNCH OF OUR 2024 TALK ABOUT IT TEXAS
AWARENESS CAMPAIGN, a crucial initiative aimed at raising awareness about
the importance of sexual and reproductive health among youth in Texas. This
campaign is designed to provide young people with accurate information,
driving targeted traffic to the TALK ABOUT IT TEXAS WEBSITE [5], so they
can make well-informed decisions about their health. Centered around four
key regions in Texas: Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and the Rio Grande
Valley (RGV), the campaign focuses on three core messaging pillars: Sexual
Health, Consent, and Birth Control. From May to October, our efforts
include strategically placed billboards in Austin and San Antonio, along
with active engagement across major social media platforms popular among

part of spreading the word! Together, we can enhance the health and
well-being of young Texans.

Healthy Futures of Texas invites you to join us in contributing to the
important discussions and initiatives of National Adolescent Health Month.
Engage in vital dialogues and witness collective efforts in implementing
evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention programs. Explore our blog post

adolescent well-being.
* MENTAL HEALTH MONTH – EXPLORING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN MENTAL HEALTH
& SEXUAL HEALTH: [8] Explore the intersection of mental health and sexual
health with Healthy Futures of Texas this Mental Health Awareness Month!
Our recent online discussion provides insights from expert panelists on
supporting youth, identifying mental health concerns, and fostering open
dialogue.
* STUDENT FILM CONTEST BRINGS TOGETHER DALLAS PHILANTHROPISTS FOR A GOOD
CAUSE: [9] During Mental Health Awareness Month, it's essential to
spotlight collaborative efforts. In this spirit, we're proud to highlight
the collaboration of Dallas philanthropists during our recent film contest.
Their support empowered high school students to explore the intersection of
mental health and sexual health, amplifying awareness and fostering
meaningful dialogue.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR 13TH ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM

In May, we proudly hosted our 13th Annual Symposium, bringing together 250
dedicated youth-serving professionals for four days of dynamic programming
on adolescent sexual and reproductive health. Huge thanks to our sponsors,

FAST FACT FRIDAYS SPOTLIGHT: TEXAS TEEN BIRTH TRENDS

Every week, we share vital sexual health data impacting Texas youth on our
social media @HFTEXAS [12]. Did you know that the highest teen birth rates
in Texas tend to occur in more rural counties? However, due to their large
population, over 50% of teen births in Texas occur in just seven counties
that contain the cities of Houston, Dallas-Ft Worth, San Antonio, the Rio
Grande Valley, El Paso, and Austin. The 10,916 teen births in these
counties represent 51% of the 21,337 teen births in the state in 2022.

* Are you a Texas clinician, educator, counselor, parent, or youth who is
passionate about sexual health? Please take a few minutes to fill out our
