RGV TeenFest: Inspiring Rio Grande Valley Youth

We'd like to showcase the impactful work happening in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) through our recent event, RGV TeenFest, a collaborative effort led by Healthy Futures of Texas Youth Advocates alongside the Brownsville Pod. Pods are part of the Texas Youth Action Network's initiative to foster positive youth development programs.

This event, which saw the participation of 114 youth, was a testament to our commitment to empowering young people in the RGV community. Our shared objective was to equip youth in the Rio Grande Valley with the tools to manage their health and access crucial community resources. The success of RGV TeenFest reflects our dedication to positive youth development. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who supported us and look forward to furthering this mission across Texas.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our 2024 Talk About it Texas Awareness Campaign, a crucial initiative aimed at raising awareness about the importance of sexual and reproductive health among youth in Texas. This campaign is designed to provide young people with accurate information, driving targeted traffic to the Talk About it Texas website, so they can make well-informed decisions about their health. Centered around four key regions in Texas: Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and the Rio Grande Valley (RGV), the campaign focuses on three core messaging pillars: Sexual Health, Consent, and Birth Control. From May to October, our efforts include strategically placed billboards in Austin and San Antonio, along with active engagement across major social media platforms popular among youth. Join the conversation on our @talkaboutittx account and be a part of spreading the word! Together, we can enhance the health and well-being of young Texans.

Fast Fact Fridays Spotlight: Texas Teen Birth Trends

Every week, we share vital sexual health data impacting Texas youth on our social media @hftexas. Did you know that the highest teen birth rates in Texas tend to occur in more rural counties? However, due to their large population, over 50% of teen births in Texas occur in just seven counties that contain the cities of Houston, Dallas-Ft Worth, San Antonio, the Rio Grande Valley, El Paso, and Austin. The 10,916 teen births in these counties represent 51% of the 21,337 teen births in the state in 2022.
