The NURSE Act, a crucial piece of legislation, is the focus of NASN's Virtual Hill Days, which will be on June 11, 12, and 13. This legislation, reintroduced in 2024 by U.S. Senator Jon Tester (MT-D) and already introduced by Representative Dina Titus (NV-D), aims to help rural and underserved schools hire more school nurses and increase student access to care. We will be sharing a Virtual Hill Days Toolkit next week so you can show your support for the critical role of school nurses by tweeting, emailing, or calling your Members of Congress and Senators with sample messages. Access to a school nurse is a health equity issue. When a school nurse works in a building or with a population of students all day, every day, access to health care can increase. The 2023–2024 NASN President's Endowment Challenge, "Advocating for Equity," is tied to the endowment fund, which provides so much but also challenges you to step up and use your voice to Advocate for Equity. The Standards of Practice principle is now depicted as the foundational layer of practice and performance standards necessary to provide legally sound, evidence-based, clinically competent, quality care. The school nurse and all activities represented by the four overlapping practice principles rest upon this foundation of Standards of Practice. Students, surrounded by their family and school community, remain the center focus of the Framework.
