Dear John,

This week we've put together a special version of Enews for you. Due to the evolving challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve been working hard to learn more about how you’re doing, what you need, and determine ways we can serve you right now. Those details are listed below.

We want to remind you that we are here for you and we'd like to hear from you so that we can keep adapting. We put together a brief 3 question survey for you to share your challenges with us, as well as your solutions for the larger community.

Please read on for the immediate actions we've taken to support you now.
For Conference Attendees & Partners

As of today, 2020 SACNAS— The National Diversity in STEM Conference is still planned to occur as scheduled.

In order to support our attendees and partners, we have:
Updated our registration cancellation policy ([link removed]) to allow for refunds should the conference be cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Extended the deadline for early bird registration ([link removed]) to May 31.
For the following programs, we will continue to monitor and adjust as needed:
* Research presentation ([link removed]) and travel scholarship ([link removed]) applications are open now through April 17.
* Session proposals ([link removed]) are open now through May 8.

Webinar: SACNAS Student Presentations & COVID-19

Join the SACNAS Student Presentations Subcommittee for a special Q&A webinar to answer questions regarding research presentation applications or giving a presentation at the SACNAS conference.

For Members

There's one thing you shouldn't have to worry about right now: Your membership.

To expand access and provide stability for our members, we are:
Temporarily extending all paid member benefits to our SACNISTA-level (free) members. In other words, you do not need to renew or upgrade your membership to access the benefits listed here ([link removed]) , including eligibility to apply for research presentations and travel scholarships. Simply sign-up for or continue your SACNISTA-level membership.

Pausing all renewals for existing paid members through August 1, 2020.

Connecting with partner organizations like AISES, AIHEC, and TCUs, to identify specific ways to support our Native American and Indigenous members

Formalizing a cross-departmental staff group to identify additional year-round webinars and virtual programming options.

Exploring online forums for member support and resource-sharing. If you have an idea for a specific forum/topic, email [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .
For Chapters

As chapter members navigate the transition to virtual learning, maintaining community, and planning for an uncertain future— we are with you.

To maintain community and provide flexibility for our chapter members, we are:
Consulting with chapter leaders on specific needs around educational programming and workforce engagement.

Extending the Chapter Annual Report ([link removed]) deadline to April 29.

Extending the Chapter Awards ([link removed]) application deadline to May 27.

2020 Linton—Poodry SACNAS
Leadership Institute!

To remain flexible for our applicants, we are:
Closely monitoring COVID-19 to determine if we need to postpone the Linton-Poodry SACNAS Leadership Institute for 2020.

Considering transfering any applications from this year to 2021, if postponed.

For Those Looking to Take Action

Despite these uncertain times, we know it can be empowering and uplifting to take action.

Here's how you can act now to support SACNAS members and our vision for #TrueDiversity in STEM:
Donate to support SACNAS ([link removed]) year-round programs and member services.

Join the SACNAS Story Bank ([link removed]) — our database of members available to talk to the press and media about various topics including climate change, LGBTQ+ issues, implicit bias, and more. Now is the time to raise the visibility of our expertise and perspectives in STEM.

Sign up to review student applications online ([link removed]) . We continue to receive many applications for research presentations and travel scholarships. Volunteer to support our student's hard work!

If you haven't yet, take part in the #ScienceRising challenge ([link removed]) and ensure that your voice is heard in this year's election.

Follow these science communicators and advocates ([link removed]) who are mobilizing an evidence-based COVID-19 response. Make sure to add your own resources and ideas!
