** Memory, grief, and celebration
------------------------------------------------------------
This was Memorial Day weekend in the US, and I hope it was meaningful for those who observed it. I took part in the other tradition often associated with this holiday in the US: weddings. Due to the three-day weekend, it is one of the most popular wedding dates, and on Saturday my cousin married his high school sweetheart.
Our video of the week offers another kind of memorial. A few weeks ago, I mentioned Jonathan Tran’s column about attending the trial of someone who killed one of Tran’s students ([link removed]) in a hit-and-run incident. In a longer and more emotional video than is typical for our YouTube channel, Tran talks for 51 minutes with Clark and Diane Grotberg, the parents of the student who was killed. They discuss many topics, including God’s presence in the grieving process ([link removed]) .
We also have some exciting new articles—including one from me! I am a huge fan of James Baldwin, and I was delighted to review a new book about Baldwin’s ideas and legacy ([link removed]) .
