Rising larceny and motor vehicle theft rates account for much of the increase. Larceny, which includes pickpocketing, shoplifting, and bicycle theft, ticked up 7.4%. The motor vehicle theft rate rose by 10.5%. Meanwhile, burglary rates fell 0.4%.

-
CDC estimates show that 29.7 million people had diagnosed cases of diabetes in 2021 — and an estimated 8.7 million had it but were undiagnosed. This means these adults were unaware they met lab criteria for the disease, or they simply did not report having it.
-
Diabetes prevalence increases with age, potentially affecting 29.2% of people 65 and older, compared with 18.9% of adults between 45 and 64.
-
The estimated diabetes rate was 14.2% for men and 12.4% for women. Men also were diagnosed at a higher rate: 11.6%, compared with 8.8% for women. Women with diabetes have increased heart disease rates, plus a higher risk of diabetes-related complications such as blindness, kidney disease, and depression.
-
The CDC estimates another 97.6 million people — 38.0% of the adult population — have prediabetes, meaning their blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not at diabetes levels.
