Dear John,
Today Governor Abbott announced the state's new Frontline Child Care ([link removed]) portal to connect workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 battle — like nurses, doctors, and grocery store employees — to child care if they are unable to keep their children home during the workday.
While it's best for frontline workers to keep their children home with a spouse or other reliable caregiver during the workday, the new portal is available when that isn't an option.
The website includes information to help frontline workers determine if they are eligible for financial assistance to cover the costs of child care.
We encourage you to share this important new resource with:
frontline employees who need child care,
frontline employers whose employees need child care, and
child care providers who would like to offer child care to frontline workers.

We appreciate the efforts by the Governor, the staff of the Texas Workforce Commission, and other Texas officials and stakeholders who worked so hard to launch this project on such a short timeline.
As a member of the Governor's Frontline Child Care Task Force, I've been able to see first hand just how much effort they put into this initiative over the last week in the midst of difficult work conditions and numerous other high priority efforts to address the pandemic.
We also want to express our appreciation to all the child care educators who are stepping up to help. This experience is reminding all of us that child care providers are part of the backbone of the Texas economy, in addition to playing a critical role in giving children the social, emotional, and learning tools they will need in school and beyond.
We should all applaud these child care educators who are helping us get through this crisis — and we should ensure that future state policies recognize the critical role that these child care educators play in Texas.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Rubin
