In 'A Shot In The Dark,' Candace Owens shares her opinions, which are basically anti-vaccine talking points ( [link removed] ) , on:

* Gardasil & HPV - the vaccine that prevents cervical cancer! ( [link removed] )

the vitamin K shot for newborns ( [link removed] ) - the shot ( [link removed] ) (not a vaccine) that prevents vitamin K deficiency bleeding in newborns and infants

the Hepatitis B vaccine for newborns ( [link removed] ) - another vaccine that prevents cancer ( [link removed] ) !

erythromycin eye ointment for newborns ( [link removed] ) - a treatment that prevents blindness in newborns!

the rotavirus vaccine ( [link removed] ) - a safe and effective vaccine that prevents severe diarrhea and dehydration

* a link between SIDS and DTaP ( [link removed] ) vaccines - a so-called link ( [link removed] ) that has been debunked ( [link removed] ) over and over again

pertussis vaccines ( [link removed] ) - vaccines which aren't perfect ( [link removed] ) , but which have dramatically decreased the number of deaths from pertussis, especially for infants ( [link removed] )

the polio vaccine ( [link removed] ) - we are close to eliminating polio ( [link removed] ) , despite folks like Candace Owens.

the flu shot ( [link removed] ) - not perfect, but prevents severe flu and flu deaths

the MMR vaccine ( [link removed] ) - what happens when folks stop getting vaccinated? More measles, mumps, and congenital rubella syndrome ( [link removed] ) . Candace Ownes doesn't warn about that in her videos as she pushes an association between the MMR vaccine and autism ( [link removed] ) !

the hepatitis A vaccine ( [link removed] ) - a vaccine few people think about - until there is a hepatitis A outbreak in their area

the Hib vaccine ( [link removed] ) - before the Hib vaccine, we had the 'horror of Hib!'

the Prevnar vaccine ( [link removed] ) - another vaccine that prevents meningitis.

the RhoGAM shot ( [link removed] ) - has she ever seen a baby with hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn?

The First Five Errors in the Polio Episode of 'A Shot In The Dark' Series by Candace Owens

In Episode 12 of her series, 'A Shot In The Dark,' Candace Owens takes on polio and the polio vaccine.

Her take?

Like many anti-vaccine folks, she blames polio outbreaks on the use of DDT ( [link removed] ) , a pesticide.

The problem with this theory?

While DDT was sprayed in the 1940 and 50s, it was sprayed after polio epidemics had already stricken a town.

Why?

At the time, they didn't know what caused polio and some thought it was spread by mosquito bites. So they sprayed DDT to kill mosquitos.

[link removed] DDT was sprayed in this town on August 20th to try and stop a polio epidemic that had started on July 1st. Now how did DDT start that polio epidemic???

So while cases of polio may correlate ( [link removed] ) with the use of DDT, it's not in the way folks like Candace Owens would have you think.

What else?

We had polio before DDT was first synthesized!

And we still have polio ( [link removed] ) , even though DDT hasn't been used for over 50 years.

'A Shot In The Dark' Series by Candace Owens

It shouldn't be a surprise that all of the other episodes of her vaccine series are also filled with errors and misinformation.

It's almost like she took our list of PRATTS (Anti-Vaccine Points Refuted A Thousand Times ( [link removed] ) ) and made a video series about them!

Like other anti-vaccine influencers ( [link removed] ) , in effect, she is taking a stab in the dark, throwing out outrageous ideas ( [link removed] ) to see what her followers will believe.

[link removed] In providing this table as an Episode Resource, Candace Owens fact checks herself and her claim that you shouldn't be concerned about tetanus and other vaccine preventable diseases. Over 500 people died with tetanus ( [link removed] ) before routine use of the vaccine! And while rubella wasn't overly deadly, look at all of the deaths from congenital rubella syndrome ( [link removed] ) !

It's anti-vaccine propoganda ( [link removed] ) 101.

She downplays the risks of vaccine-preventable diseases, overstates the risks of vaccines, and tries to make you think vaccines don't even work and aren't necessary.

Don't believe her. ( [link removed] )

Why is Candace Owens So Opposed to Vaccines?

But why is she so against vaccines?

[link removed] Candace Owens tells her vaccine injury story ( [link removed] ) - she passed out after getting her first two HPV vaccines. The second time, she had 'convulsions on the floor' and vomited as she woke up.

She passed out ( [link removed] ) after getting her HPV vaccines, which sounds exactly like vaccination-related syncope ( [link removed] ) !

As most people now, that's a common reaction to getting an injection. It's not a vaccine injury.

Are you going to let her scare you ( [link removed] ) away from vaccinating and protecting your family because she fainted after getting a shot?
