Last week, Time magazine released a long article with a chilling lede: “Donald Trump thinks he’s identified a crucial mistake of his first term: He was too nice.”

The article, titled “How Far Trump Would Go,” lays out a dark and detailed picture of Trump’s plans for a second term.

It’s worth sitting with the article, which you can read here, but here are some of the key ideas Trump has previewed:

— Red states unleashed to monitor women’s pregnancies and criminally prosecute women who obtain abortions.

— Prosecution of political rivals and an evisceration of the nonpartisan civil service, to be replaced with loyalists.

— The National Guard deployed, as he sees fit, to American cities.

— Pardons for January 6th insurrectionists.

In other words, what amounts to an imperial presidency–unconstrained by norms or more rational heads, using the full power of the executive branch to enact revenge for perceived grievances and reshape American life.

We say this not to scare you, but to remind you: believe them when they tell you who they are.

If you take this threat seriously, as we do, there is only one response: strategize, plan, and get to work. We can’t change Trump and we can’t change the Republican Party, but we can beat them.

The path to the White House runs through Michigan — and in all likelihood, if Republicans win in our race, they also win the White House and the Senate. We’re doing everything in our power to prevent that outcome, including, most importantly, building a grassroots network of people like you.

So please, take a minute to think through what Trump’s plans would mean to you and your life, and the life of your kids in a second term, and ask yourself: what if he wins?

There are lots of ways to get involved and help prevent that outcome, but one of these is chipping in to help us talk to more voters in one of the most important swing states.
