Your Latest Briefing from the Liberal Democrats.

We are on a winning streak, John!

Last week’s local council, mayoral and PCC elections in England and Wales were
a historic success for the Liberal Democrats.

We elected more councillors than the Conservatives in the Local Elections -
the first time we have done this in 28 years!

Local Elections results wrapped ➜
<[link removed]>

These results are a damning verdict on this Conservative Government and show
that more and more people are turning to the Liberal Democrats to deliver the
change we need.

Now we must build on this momentum for the imminent General Election. Only
then can we oust the Conservatives from office and elect more Lib Dem MPs who
will fight for a fair deal.

Now’s the time to act, John. We need your support to make this a reality.

Congratulations to all those newly elected, including those who won
by-elections over the past few weeks. If you didn't win this time, thank you
for standing and helping build our momentum for future elections.

Doctor Who?

Half of Brits rarely or never see the same GP, according to our latest polling.

Among those over 65, over one quarter never see the same GP, even though
studies suggest that continuity reduces hospital visits, improves treatment
quality, and lowers mortality rates.

Under this Conservative Government, the family GP is a thing of the past -
just another way they’re damaging the public’s health.

Ed Davey announced our policy to ensure all over-70s and those with long-term
health conditions see the same GP for every appointment.

An unsolved crime epidemic

New Home Office data shows that nearly 6,000 crimes went unsolved every day
last year, totalling 2 million - 40% of all reported crimes.

Our analysis found that 75% of car thefts
<[link removed]>
and60% of shoplifting cases
<[link removed]>
went unsolved.

This Conservative Government’s ineffective resourcing has left frontline
police forces stretched thin and struggling with limited resources.

Criminals can’t get away like this. We need a police force focused on their
local communities, to ensure justice for victims and to prevent future crime.

That's why we’re calling for a return to proper community policing, where
officers are visible and trusted, with the time and resources to solve crimes
effectively.

Mental Health Awareness week

Mental Health Awareness week, from 13 to 19 May, is an opportunity to address
the stigma surrounding mental health and advocate for better mental health
care. While significant strides have been made, there's still much work to do.

The Liberal Democrats are committed to improving mental health care. We’re
calling for walk-in centres for young people, placing a mental health
practitioner in every school, and much more. Read about our proposals here:

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia on 17 May

LGBT+ people still face violence and discrimination across the world. This day
is a time to reflect on how we change that.

We can be proud of our role in fighting discrimination, from being the first
party to openly oppose Section 28, to our work in legalising same sex marriage.

But discrimination is still prevalent in the UK, particularly against the
trans community, and the Government is yet to ban conversion therapy.

We are committed to fighting for the rights of all LGBT+ people to achieve
true equality.
