Dear friend,
Ghana and Sri Lanka’s debt deals have both collapsed in recent weeks – undermined by greedy private lenders holding out for profit. Right now 54 countries need urgent debt cancellation. It’s a crisis that has been a long time in the making.
On Thursday 23rd May, Ghanaian debt campaigner Bernard Anaba will be joining us for a special online event to discuss the origins of the current debt crisis – and the impact today on countries like Ghana. We’ll explore the historical legacy of debt and look at the role colonialism has played in creating the current crisis. And what we can do to fight it.

The UK plays a key role in debt contracts, with most debt owed by lower income countries to private lenders overseen by UK law. A likely general election this year will be a rare opportunity for us to push for a new law to help get debt cancelled for countries in crisis.
Join us for this online event where you can find out how we plan to make 2024 a big year for debt cancellation. We’ll hear about the causes of the current debt crisis and how you can be part of the campaign to get debt cancelled.
