The debt crisis is hitting countries like Ghana hard. Last month, activists around the world held protests demanding debt cancellation. A new debt justice law in the UK could win exactly that.
Join us online on Thursday 23rd May at 7pm (UK time) for an online webinar when Ghanaian debt campaigner Bernard Anaba will speak first-hand about the country’s debt crisis – and how people in Ghana and elsewhere are resisting.
We’ll hear how the roots of Ghana’s debt crisis lie deep in colonial times, and how western powers use debt to maintain power and control over countries, including Ghana, even today.
You’ll find out how you can be part of the campaign to cancel the debt – and help win justice for millions.
Here's my previous email about the event, in case you missed it!

Dear friend,
Ghana and Sri Lanka’s debt deals have both collapsed in recent weeks – undermined by greedy private lenders holding out for profit. Right now 54 countries need urgent debt cancellation. It’s a crisis that has been a long time in the making.
On Thursday 23rd May, Ghanaian debt campaigner Bernard Anaba will be joining us for a special online event to discuss the origins of the current debt crisis – and the impact today on countries like Ghana. We’ll explore the historical legacy of debt and look at the role colonialism has played in creating the current crisis. And what we can do to fight it.
The UK plays a key role in debt contracts, with most debt owed by lower income countries to private lenders overseen by UK law. A likely general election this year will be a rare opportunity for us to push for a new law to help get debt cancelled for countries in crisis.
Join us for this online event where you can find out how we plan to make 2024 a big year for debt cancellation. We’ll hear about the causes of the current debt crisis and how you can be part of the campaign to get debt cancelled.
