Putting Americans First 🇺🇲

We did a good thing this week, folks.

With absolutely zero help
<[link removed]>
from Democrats (imagine that!), the House managed topass a bill
<[link removed]>
that would add an important question to the next U.S. census: Are you a U.S.
citizen? Check yes or no—it’s really that simple.

I’ll be the first to admit it’s silly we even got to this point. Why should
there be a debate about whether the United States census should count only
Americans? I’ll tell you why: because Democrats would ratherfactor illegal
aliens
<[link removed]>
into the process toskew things in their favor
<[link removed]>
.

Failure to include a citizenship question will unfairly give states with a
high number of illegal aliens more congressional districts and more electoral
college votes. States like California take pride in harboring illegal aliens,
providing them with freemedical care
<[link removed]>
,housing
<[link removed]>
, and more—and that’s their choice. But this shouldn't reward them with
additional opportunities for representation. All that would do is warp the will
of the American people.

To those who want to sit back and accuse Republicans of using the border as a
political weapon: Enough of the poppycock. The only people using the border as
a sinister tool are Democrats who prefer to leave it wide open, flooding the
country with10 million
<[link removed]>
people in hopes that they’ll be able to vote someday.

We have a history of saying that our elections
<[link removed]>
are sacred, fair, and secure—the cornerstone of this great republic. If that’s
true, it’s time to start acting like it and prioritize the dadgum
representation of our people, and I’m confident this bill will do just that.

Americans are sick and tired of this administration's habit of weaponizing
different parts of our government, and they don’t want to see the census become
the latest pawn in their twisted political game.

The Class of 2024 🎓

Congratulations to the Carter High School seniors on their upcoming graduation!

When I reflect on my time as Knox County Mayor
<[link removed]>
, opening Carter Elementary School in 2013 was one of my proudest achievements,
and it fills me with pride to know that many of these students were once
students there. As the son of two educators, I know firsthand how critical it
is to have vibrant schools for our children, and that’s why I’m always trying
to ensure that’s what the students of Knoxville get.

It was a joy to speak to these kids as they embark on this important next
chapter, and I look forward to seeing where life takes them from here. One
thing is for sure: I am confident they’ll make all of us in Knoxville very
proud!
