We did a good thing this week, folks.
Â
With absolutely zero help from Democrats (imagine that!), the House managed to pass a bill that would add an important question to the next U.S. census: Are you a U.S. citizen? Check yes or no—it’s really that simple.
Â
I’ll be the first to admit it’s silly we even got to this point. Why should there be a debate about whether the United States census should count only Americans? I’ll tell you why: because Democrats would rather factor illegal aliens into the process to skew things in their favor.
Â
Failure to include a citizenship question will unfairly give states with a high number of illegal aliens more congressional districts and more electoral college votes. States like California take pride in harboring illegal aliens, providing them with free medical care, housing, and more—and that’s their choice. But this shouldn't reward them with additional opportunities for representation. All that would do is warp the will of the American people.
Â
To those who want to sit back and accuse Republicans of using the border as a political weapon: Enough of the poppycock. The only people using the border as a sinister tool are Democrats who prefer to leave it wide open, flooding the country with 10 million people in hopes that they’ll be able to vote someday.
Â
We have a history of saying that our elections are sacred, fair, and secure—the cornerstone of this great republic. If that’s true, it’s time to start acting like it and prioritize the dadgum representation of our people, and I’m confident this bill will do just that.
Â
Americans are sick and tired of this administration's habit of weaponizing different parts of our government, and they don’t want to see the census become the latest pawn in their twisted political game.
